How to Sign Up as an AYSO Referee
AYSO is a volunteer-run organization, and referees are essential to making games safe and fun. Here's how to sign up as a volunteer referee:
Step 1: Go to Your Region’s Website
For Region 19: www.ayso19.org
Click “Login” if you already have an account, or “Register Now” to create one in Sports Connect.
Step 2: Add Yourself as a Volunteer
Once logged in, go to “My Account.”
Click the Volunteer tab (left side) and then “Find Volunteer Roles.”
Select the appropriate program (e.g., Fall 2025), division (any division is fine), and click “View Available Positions.”
Choose “Referee” and click “Sign Up.”
Step 3: Complete the Volunteer Application
Fill in your personal details and electronically sign the waiver.
Submit your volunteer form.
Step 4: Complete the Background Check
You’ll receive an email from Sterling Volunteers to initiate your LiveScan (if required) and background check.
Follow all instructions and submit the background check promptly.
Step 5: Take the Required Online Courses
All referee volunteers must complete the following free trainings:
- AYSO Safe Haven
- CDC Concussion Awareness
- Sudden Cardiac Arrest
- Regional Referee Course (Online version available on AYSOU)
To access these:
- Go to AYSOU (you may need to log in through Sports Connect first).
- Click on “Training Library” to take the courses under Safe Haven and Refereeing.
Step 6: Attend In-Person Training (If Needed)
For new referees, most Regions offer an in-person Regional Referee Companion Course to go over game management, signals, and field practice.
Check your Region's website or emails for training dates.
Step 7: Get Your Referee Gear
Once you're certified, your Region will provide a referee jersey, whistle, cards, and flags.
Ask your Referee Administrator if you’re missing anything.
