Referee Mentor is a new certification course! The purpose of this course is to train already-certified referees to be certified mentors for less-experienced referees, including newly certified referees, youth referees, and referees seeking upgrades in their certification levels. The objectives of this workshop are:
-
Understand why and how to mentor new referees.
-
Understand the characteristics of a successful mentor who can create a positive communication atmosphere between the mentor and the mentee.
-
Understand the special characteristics of youth referees and how the mentor must adjust to their needs.
-
Understand the mentor’s role when working with referees who are attempting to upgrade their certification (badge level)
-
Understand the value of referee mentoring to the AYSO National Referee Program.
-
Understand pre and post-game duties.
Once certified, in Area 1-P, Referee Mentors (are also Intermediate Referees or higher) are authorized to perform observations for referees looking to upgrade to Intermediate Referee. For candidates outside of Area 1-P, please check with your local ARA or ADRA.
Please download and review the “Referee Mentor Handbook” before you attend the class.
